The Washington University Model United Nations Symposium requires all delegates to submit position papers.
Writing a position paper will organize and focus your research and prove to your chair that you prepared for WUMUNS. Preparation will not only help you win an award in your committee, but will improve the overall quality of debate and make the conference a more enjoyable experience for you and your fellow delegates. We will give special recognition to outstanding position papers.
A position paper is a description of your position regarding the topics presented in your committee’s background guide. The requirements are:
- 2-3 page length (double spaced, 12-point font)
- At least four sources of information (use footnotes to cite)
- The position paper should touch on all topics in the background guideWe recommend that for each topic you first discuss the topic in general and then turn to a more focused discussion of your personal role, position, and plan of action for committee. Your paper is confidential and will not be seen by other delegates.
Position papers are due one week before the conference on Friday, October 7th.
Submit your position paper directly to your committee’s director, whose email addresses can be found on their committee pages on the WUMUNS website. Your directors will also be happy to answer any questions you have about your specific committee.
Please address general questions about WUMUNS to firstname.lastname@example.org.
